Our Story

Once upon a time, Lya and Alvaro rescued a dog that changed their lives forever.
His name was Oso, a dog that struggled to maintain a home. Every time he was adopted, was also soon returned.
"How many other dogs like Oso exist in the streets?", we thought
Soon they had rescued over 100 dogs, and decided to move them all to the farm in Carrizal of Alajuela.

And so, Territorio de Zaguates was born!
In less than five years, we grew to care for 1.500 dogs and more come our way daily.
A couple of years ago, the government tried to close the shelter and created a lot of requirements for us to stay open.
We’re currently closed to the public, as we work on all the construction needed for the reopening, but continue helping dogs and rescuing and caring for them to this day.
We keep fighting to reach our goal to open to the public, and we will not give up, we are very close!

Help us Make That
Dream Come True.
